Make them CIRCUITPY_FULL_BUILD = 0 and rework the boards to have
the same modules enabled (ish.)
Also make ZLIB require FULL_BUILD and disable advanced `micropython`
module APIs by default on all builds.
This adds support for CIRCUITPY_WIFI_SSID and CIRCUITPY_WIFI_PASSWORD
in `/.env`. When both are defined, CircuitPython will attempt to
connect to the network even when user code isn't running. If the
user code attempts to a network with the same SSID, it will return
immediately. Connecting to another SSID will disconnect from the
auto-connected network. If the user code initiates the connection,
then it will be shutdown after user code exits. (Should match <8
behavior.)
This PR also reworks the default displayio terminal. It now supports
a title bar TileGrid in addition to the (newly renamed) scroll area.
The default title bar is the top row of the display and is positioned
to the right of the Blinka logo when it is enabled. The scroll area
is now below the Blinka logo.
The Wi-Fi auto-connect code now uses the title bar to show its
state including the IP address when connected. It does this through
the "standard" OSC control sequence `ESC ] 0 ; <s> ESC \` where <s>
is the title bar string. This is commonly supported by terminals
so it should work over USB and UART as well.
Related to #6174
Use this function instead of several individual configuration functions
to configure such things as Baud rate, transfer size, stop bits,
parity...
This function also resets both the RX and TX Hardware Fifo
reset functions are called to setup the hardware.
This allows the compile stage to optimize most of the translate()
function away and saves a ton of space (~40k on ESP). *However*, it
requires us to wait for the qstr output before we compile the rest
of our .o files. (Only qstr.o used to wait.)
This isn't as good as the current setup with LTO though. Trinket M0
loses <1k with this setup.
So, we should probably conditionalize this along with LTO.
Everything should be using the keypad module instead.
Note: there are several boards that still had gamepadshift enabled. I
did not contact their authors to make sure they already switched to
keypad in their code and documentation. We should probably wait with
merging this for their go ahead.
Changed a few things in the link step that satisfies the teensy
loader apps, both the teensy.exe as well as the teensy_loader_cli
such that when you program the board again it should retain the
file sytem that is stored in the upper area of the Flash
This lets the BLE stack run through the wait period after a VM run
when it may be waiting for more writes due to an auto-reload.
User BLE functionality will have their events stopped. Scanning and
advertising is also stopped.

Since I have a PR on this file anyway, I thought I would put in the change to make it consistent
with the other 3 board types I tried. Can not say about any of the others.
.. and enable it on atmel-samd and raspberrypi. On trinket_m0 this saves
96 net bytes of flash. There are 216 bytes actually saved by reducing
the flash storage size of the property descriptors, but added code in
several paths takes back over half of the 'raw savings'.
By organizing the "get-only" and "get-set" (but no delete) properties
each in a different section, we can represent then more efficiently.
Testing performed: that a get-only property can still be gotten but
can't be set or deleted; that a get-set property can sill be gotten or
set but can't be deleted. Tested on pygamer.
Because this requires linker file support, I only enabled it on two of
the ports.
As I mentioned in issue #6310 while investigating that the Teensy port
did not support RS485_dir pin on normal GPIO pins, I found that it
was not implemented either as well on some other ports.
So was curious to implement it for RP2040 using same approach as I did
for the MIMXRT in the Pull Request #6328
That is I setup the specified pin as a normal GPIO pin in output mode
and then when you do a write operation it sets the GPIO pin logically
high, and when the write completes I set it logically low.
Note: knowing when I can set it low can be tricky, as you need to make
sure the full output has completed otherwise the data will be corrupted.
I am using: uart_tx_wait_blocking(self->uart);
Which looks like it is supposed to wait until the busy status is no
longer set, which the Reference manual mentioned, but this is leaving
the line logically set longer than I would like.
however I have tried running it with my hacked up version of the
Python Robotis DynamixelSDK and was able to talk to some AX servos.
I did have to change the library slightly for the RP2040, as the
library was erroring out when you did something like uart.read(5)
and it timed out without receiving anything. The RP2040 returned
None whereas I think the Teensy returned an empty set, which is what
it looks like the PySerial original code expects.
Not sure if anyone is interested in this, but thought i would
put it out as PR and see.
The existing code was setup that allowed you to specify an RTS
pin to be used as an RS485 direction pin, however there are no
RTS pins that are exposed on any of the Teensy 4.x boards.
Instead Arduino code base allowed you to specify any GPIO pin to
work instead. So I added the code in to facilitate this.
In addition the alternative code to wrap your own GPIO pin set high and low
around call(s) to uart.write() will not currently work, unless maybe you
fudge it and add your own delays as the write will return after the last
byte was pushed onto the UART’s hardware FIFO queue and as such if you
then immediately set the IO pin low, it will corrupt your output stream.
The code I added detects that you are setup to use the RS485 pin and
before it returns will wait for the UART’s Transfer complete status flag
to be set.
Now a 'once' and a 'loop' buffer can be specified.
'once' is useful for things like writing a neopixel strip in the background,
if you can guarantee the buffer contents are stable until the write is complete.
'loop' is useful for periodic things, like pwm & servos.
both together are useful for some special cases of pwm/servo, where a
transitional waveform needs to be played for one repetition and then
a new waveform needs to be played after that.
The API is renamed to reflect that it's a more generic 'background'
operation.
There were two main issues with the PWM support.
The first is they would fail to work properly if the board goes
into low power mode, when you do things like: time.sleep(0.25)
Can make partially work with this by turning on the proper flags
in each of the FlexPWMTimer Timers/sub-timers, but this did not
appear to work if for example you have both A and B channels
enabled.
Second main problem is that the code did not work with the X
channel of each timer/sub-timer. It looks like someone had
earlier started support for this, But was not sufficient.
Needed to bypass the SDK code and get it closer to the PJRC code.
That is we set the PWM_CTRL_FULL_MASK, which then uses base->SM[submodule].VAL1 to control
when the timer is reset, so it sets up your cycle/frequency. But then this implies that X channel
which uses 0, 1 has to be handled specially. So for the different channels:
A - Uses VAL2 to turn on (0) and VAL3=duty to turn off
B - Uses VAL4 to turn on (0) and VAL5 to turn off
X - As mentioned above VAL1 turns off, but its set to the timing for freqency. so
VAL0 turns on, so we set it to VAL1 - duty
Renamed the board both name of directory within boards, but also the

While testing out this and the new MicroMod Teensy port, @mjs513
and myself found it desirable to have logical pin names for the
different Serial UART objects. It is a lot easier and clearer
to use and maintain to do something
like: uart4 = busio.UART(board.TX4, board.RX4)
than have to go look up the pin numbers for each board.
I fixed a couple issues in the pin name definitions.
The pin names are sort of Teensy centric in that the priority is given
to the pin names you would use in Arduino like D0, D1, ...
But also added names for the MicroMod names in particular the names
on the front of the ATP carrier board
Also updated manufacturer to be both PJRC and Sparkfun
As mentioned in issue #6241 the commit to setup port hooks is now
causing all input/output that are to go to the Mu window to also
go to the LpUart that is defined the port serial.c
and in this case it goes to lpuart4, which on Teensy 4, 4.1 is
used on Arduino Serial2. With this new code this port no longer
works properly.
This is one way to solve it, in that there is a #if defined() that
if not set, all of the code in this file is ignored and the higher
level supervisor stub versions of these functions will be used, which
don't interfere with Serial2 and my test sketch works again.
Note: the PR for Switch to Port Serial Hooks, also changed code in
other ports. I have not tried to see how.
There are other more global fixes for this, in which maybe a higer
level #if that disables the code within the top level supervisor. Or
could be software controlled
Again this may not be the final solution, but at least it gets
Serial2 up and running agin.
I instrumented RTC_Handler and determined that on SAMD51 it was possible
for the interrupt to be delivered well before the actual overflow of the
RTC COUNT register (e.g., a value as small as 0xffff_fffd could be seen
at the time of overflow)
Rather than depending on the overflow interrupt coming in at the same time
as COUNT overflows (exactly), rely only on observed values of COUNT in
_get_count, overflowing when it wraps around from a high value to a low
one.
With this change, PLUS a second change so that it is possible to warp
the RTC counter close to an overflow and test in 20ms instead of 3 days,
there was no problem detected over 20000+ overflows. Before, a substantial
fraction (much greater than 10%) of overflows failed.

To me, it made more sense to track which boards go together in a cluster;
when reviewing a request to actually use a duplicate vid/pid, you want
to know what board(s) it is aliasing.
I also revamped the detection of non-USB boards so that a board .mk file
that couldn't be parsed by the code here would raise a problem instead
of just being skipped for the purposes of checking.
There were some lines with comments on the end, and some variation in
capitalization of the IDs. These are all normalized and a (sometimes
unfriendly!) error printed when it's incorrect.
Before this, here were some ways to trick the duplicate vid/pid checker:

None of these things were ever done on purpose.
This board has both types of USB connectors, a display and buttons
to select items on the display. It also has a micro-B connector for
the UART output.
Removes:
* AUTORESET_DELAY_MS which never did anything but was introduced
somehow.
* CIRCUITPY_BOOT_BUTTON in all but one ESP board because they all have
them. There is a default based on the strapping pins.
* BOARD_USER_SAFE_MODE_ACTION because it was all the same for boards
with boot buttons. Now the safe mode code manages the message.
This unifies the delay into the post-run delay that also waits
for user input and fake sleep. This ensures we always delay.
Previous code would only delay if the code.py was running when
autoreload was triggered. Now it will always delay.
We also now suspend autoreload when a USB write starts and then
resume on completion. This should prevent reloading in between
sectors of a single write.
- Add reset for autoreload. De-request ticks.
- Separate state a little more in autoreload.c
- Rename some routines.
- Remove redundant settings of CIRCUITPY_AUTORELOAD_DELAY_MS.
This allows you to list and explore connected USB devices. It
only stubs out the methods to communicate to endpoints. That will
come in a follow up once TinyUSB has it. (It's in progress.)
Related to #5986
The ``reset`` and ``read`` pins should be optional, but the espressif
code had several places where it assumed they are not, and a bug that
caused a crash on ``release_displays`` if they were made optional.
The bug was caused by the fields for storing pin numbers being set
to ``NO_PIN``, which has value of -1, while the fields have type
``uint8_t``. That set the actual value to 255, and a subsequent
comparison to ``NO_PIN`` returned false.
There may be several reasons why we might want to remove the logo form
the REPL: a fork of CircuitPython that doesn't have the right to use the
logo, an especially small display that needs all the room it has to be
useful, displays that are especially vulnerable to burn-in, maybe even
the smaller chips where we want to save as much flash memory as
possible.
This allows board code to override the default pull up reset state.
It is useful for pins that are already externally connected, pulled
or otherwise used by the board.

Boosted performance, board.json metadata, more mimxrt, rp2, samd features
This release of MicroPython sees a boost to the overall performance of the
VM and runtime. This is achieved by the addition of an optional cache to
speed up general hash table lookups, as well as a fast path in the VM for
the LOAD_ATTR opcode on instance types. The new configuration options are
MICROPY_OPT_MAP_LOOKUP_CACHE and MICROPY_OPT_LOAD_ATTR_FAST_PATH. As part
of this improvement the MICROPY_OPT_CACHE_MAP_LOOKUP_IN_BYTECODE option has
been removed, which provided a similar map caching mechanism but with the
cache stored in the bytecode, which made it not useful on bare metal ports.
The new mechanism is measured to be at least as good as the old one,
applies to more map lookups, has a constant RAM overhead, and applies to
native code as well as bytecode.
These performance options are enabled on the esp32, mimxrt, rp2, stm32 and
unix ports. For esp32 and mimxrt some code is also moved to RAM to further
boost performance. On stm32, performance increases by about 20% for
benchmarks that are heavy on name lookups, like misc_pystone.py and
misc_raytrace.py. On esp32 performance can increase by 2-3x, and on mimxrt
it is up to 6x.
All boards in all ports now have a board.json metadata file, which is used
to automatically build firmware and generate a webpage for that board
(among other possibilities). Auto-build scripts have been added for this
purpose and they build all esp32, mimxrt, rp2, samd and stm32 boards. The
generated output is available at https://micropython.org/download.
Support for FROZEN_DIR and FROZEN_MPY_DIR has been deprecated for some time
and was finally removed in this release. Instead of these, FROZEN_MANIFEST
can be used. The io.resource_stream() function is also removed, replaced
by the pure Python version in micropython-lib.
The search order for importing frozen Python modules is now controlled by
the ".frozen" entry in sys.path. This string is added by default in the
second position in sys.path. User code should adjust sys.path depending on
the desired behaviour. Putting ".frozen" first in sys.path will speed up
importing frozen modules.
A bug in multiple precision integers with bitwise of -0 was fixed in commit
2c139bbf4e.
The platform module has been added to allow querying the compiler and
underlying SDK/HAL/libc version. This is enabled on esp32, mimxrt and
stm32 ports.
The mpremote tool now supports seek, flush, mkdir and rmdir on PC-mounted
filesystems. And a help command has been added.
The documentation has seen many additions and improvements thanks (for a
second time) to the Google Season of Docs project. The rp2 documentation
now includes a reference for PIO assembly instructions, a PIO quick
reference and a PIO tutorial. The random and stm modules have been
documented, along with sys.settrace, manifest.py files and mpremote. There
is also now more detail about the differences between MicroPython and
standard Python 3.5 and above.
The esp32 port sees support for ESP32-S3 SoCs, and new boards GENERIC_S3,
ESP32_S2_WROVER, LOLIN_S2_MINI, LOLIN_S2_PICO and UM_FEATHERS2NEO. The PWM
driver has been improved and now supports all PWM timers and channels, and
the duty_u16() and duty_ns() methods, and it keeps the duty constant when
changing frequency. The machine.bitstream() function has been improved to
use RMT, with an option to select the original bit-banging implementation.
The mimxrt port gained new hardware features: SDRAM and SD card support, as
well as network integration with a LAN driver. The machine.WDT class was
added along with the machine.reset_cause(), machine.soft_reset(),
machine.unique_id() add machine.bitstream() functions. DHT sensor support
was added, and f-strings were enabled.
The rp2 port now has support for networking, and bluetooth using NimBLE.
The Nina-W10 WiFi/BT driver is fully integrated and supported by the new
Arduino Nano RP2040 connect board. I2S protocol support is added along
with a machine.bitstream() driver and DHT sensor support. The PWM driver
had a bug fix with the accuracy of setting/getting the frequency, and the
duty value is now retained when changing the frequency.
On the samd port there is now support for the internal flash being a block
device, and for filesystems and the os module. Pin and LED classes have
been implemented. There are more time functions, more Python features
enabled, and the help() function is added. SEEED_WIO_TERMINAL and
SEEED_XIAO board definitions are now available.
The stm32 port now has support for F427, F479 and H7A3(Q)/H7B3(Q) MCUs, and
new board definitions for VCC_GND_H743VI, OLIMEX_H407, MIKROE_QUAIL,
GARATRONIC_PYBSTICK26_F411, STM32H73B3I_DK. A bug was fixed in the SPI
driver where a SPI transfer could fail if the CYW43 WiFi driver was also
active at the same time.
On the windows port the help() function has been enabled, and support for
build variants added, to match the unix port.
The zephyr port upgraded Zephyr to v2.7.0.

This is needed so that the floppy flux reader can enable the pull up
on the index pin while using it as a pio jmp pin.
Also fixes a doc bug where the `jmp_pin` was omitted in one spot in the docs.
Per Scott, the purpose of this trick is to make the board programmable from Arduino even when CP is installed, so my convenience of escaping into UF2 is not going to work out.
This makes it easier to blanket never reset flash and USB pins. It
also allows us to set a custom state after reset. The first case
is for the double tap reset that needs to be pulled low.

This tweaks the RMT timing to better match the 1/3 and 2/3 of 800khz
guideline for timing. It also ensures a delay of 300 microseconds
with the line low before reset.
Pin reset is now changed to the IDF default which pulls the pin up
rather than CircuitPython's old behavior of floating the pin.

The bit-bang implementation was replaced with the RMT implementation in
599b61c086. This commit brings back that
bit-bang code, and allows it to be selected via the new static method:
esp32.RMT.bitstream_channel(None)
The bit-bang implementation may be useful if the RMT needs to be used for
something else, or if bit-banging is more stable in certain applications.

MicroPython currently runs on core 0 of the esp32. Calling
rmt_driver_install will mean that the RMT interrupt handler is also
serviced on core 0. This can lead to glitches in the RMT output if
WiFi is enabled (for esp32.RMT and machine.bitstream).
This patch calls rmt_driver_install on core 1, ensuring that the RMT
interrupt handler is serviced on core 1. This prevents glitches.

Initially enabled for samd51, this enables reading raw flux data as well
as DOS/MFM formatted media.
This is only the low-level code for reading & decoding flux pulses from a floppy drive.
high level details will live in a Python library.
adafruit-circuitpython-floppy will take care of details like stepping
from track to track, etc.
The port is free to return NULL for any/all of these, and the caller has
to check.
This will be used in the floppy code, because aside from getting the
registers, it looks like all is independent of MCU.
This brings the pins in line with the documented [pinouts]. The only
"special" pins:
- GP0, GP1 are mentioned as the default UART, so we init them as
such and give them the TX and RX alternative names.
- GP16 is connected to the onboard neopixel DIN line and we assign it
the NEOPIXEL name. (Power of the neopixel is connected to the 3.3V
rail, not a pin. See [schematic].)
- GP26, GP27, GP28, GP29 have unambiguous ADC designations in the
[pinouts], so we assign the `A` analogue names as the Pico board
definition does.

If, for some reason, you mix up TX and RX when calling `busio.UART` (who would do that ;) ), you get `Invalid pins`. When you go to try again, you'll get `All UART peripherals are in use` because the interface was claimed as busy before pins are verified. This should fix that issue.
The main Makefile builds the mpy-cross executable automatically if
it doesn't exist since 78718fffb1,
so build it first to make sure it doesn't get needlessly rebuilt.
This board has only 2MiB of flash so the build needs to be reduced in size
to fit. Commit 549448e8bb made all boards
build with -O2 by default (for performance) so this overrides that default.

This is needed because these ports allocate mbedtls data on the MicroPython
heap, and SSL socket objects must be fully cleaned up when they are garbage
collected, to free this memory allocated by mbedtls. As part of this,
gc_sweep_all() will now ensure that the MP_STATE_PORT(mbedtls_memory)
linked-list is fully deallocated on soft reset.

The reboot header was moved to a different path in Zephyr v2.6.0. The
old path was deprecated for two releases (v2.6.0 and v2.7.0) and will no
longer be supported after Zephyr v2.7.0.

After changing the bitstream implementation to use the RMT driver in
commit 72d86158121e32bbabaeade08f449d507bf40f9a
("esp32/machine_bitstream.c: Replace with RMT-based driver."), using
multiple `Neopixel` instances shows signal duplication between the
instances (i.e. a `write()` on one instance is written to all instances).
On invocation, the rmt driver configures the GPIO matrix to route the
output signal to the respective GPIO pin. When called for a different
`NeoPixel` instance using a different pin, the new route is established,
but the old route still exists. Now, the RMT output signal is sent to both
pins.
Fix this by setting the standard GPIO output function for the current pin
after uninstalling the RMT driver.

In commit 86ce442607 the '.frozen' entry was
added at the start of sys.path, to allow control over when frozen modules
are searched during import, and retain existing behaviour whereby frozen
was searched before the filesystem.
But Python semantics of sys.path require sys.path[0] to be the directory of
the currently executing script, or ''.
This commit moves the '.frozen' entry to second place in sys.path, so
sys.path[0] retains its correct value (described above).

Save and restore the same duty cycle when the frequency (or frequency
resolution) is changed. This allows a smooth frequency change.
Also update the esp32 PWM quickref to be clearer.
These removed ones are either unused by MicroPython or provided by osapi.h
in the SDK. In particular ets_delay_us() has different signatures for
different versions of the SDK, so best to let it provide the declaration.

If MICROPY_PY_SYS_PATH_ARGV_DEFAULTS is enabled (which it is by default)
then sys.path and sys.argv will be initialised and populated with default
values. This keeps all bare-metal ports aligned.

Frozen modules will be searched preferentially, but gives the user the
ability to override this behavior.
This matches the previous behavior where "" was implicitly the frozen
search path, but the frozen list was checked before the filesystem.

This feature is not enabled on any port, it's not in CPython's io module,
and functionality is better suited to the micropython-lib implementation of
pkg_resources.
Default SPI pins are now correctly assigned by machine_hw_spi.c even for S2
and S3. mpconfigboard.h files define defaults with flipped SPI(1) and
SPI(2) to workaround a bug in machine_hw_spi.c - the bug is fixed.

Use IO_MUX pins as defined by ESP IDF in soc/esp32/include/soc/spi_pins.h
ESP32S2 and S3 don't have IO_MUX pins for SPI3, GPIO matrix is always used.
Choose suitable defaults for S2 and S3.
ESP32C3 does not have SPI3 at all. Don't define pin mappings for it.

The index of machine_hw_spi_obj and machine_hw_spi_default_pins arrays is
assigned to 0 for ARG_id==HSPI_HOST and 1 for another SPI. On ESP32S2 and
S3 HSPI_HOST=2 so the first set (idx=0) of default pins is used for
SPI(id=2) aka HSPI/SPI3 and the second set (idx=1) for SPI(id=1) aka
FSPI/SPI2. This makes a misleading mess in MICROPY_HW_SPIxxxx definitions
and it is also in contradiction to the comments around the definitions.
Change the test of ARG_id to fix the order of machine_hw_spi_default_pins.
This change might require adjusting MICROPY_HW_SPIxxxx definitions in
mpconfigboard.h of S2/S3 based boards.

It turned out that they are less board than flash type specific.
- Change to a common flexspi_flash_config.h header file.
Thanks for the hint, Damien. The DEBUG build got very large recently.
The major difference is, that inline function are now inlined and
not included as a function. That's good and maybe bad. The good thing is,
that the code speed si now close to the final code. It could be worse
in single step debugging. I'll see.
Setting this option caused a new warning and a formatting error
to pop up at different places. Fixed as well.
The ID is read in a single function and used for:
- machine.unique_id()
- Ethernet MAC addresses.
- ...
That facilitates use of other MCU using a different access method for
the ID (e.g. i.MX RT1176).
Just another choice for the PHY interface.
Added: Keyword option phy_clock=LAN.IN or LAN.OUT
to define the source of the 50MHZ clock for the PHY
interface. The RMII clock is not enabled if it
is generated by a PYH board. Constants:
LAN.IN The clock is provided by the PHY board.
LAN.OUT The clock is provided by the MCU board.
The default is LAN.OUT or the value set in mpconfigboard.h, which
is currently set to IN only for the SEEED ARCH MIX board. Usage etc:
lan = LAN(phy_type=LAN.PHY_DP83848, phy_clock=LAN.IN)
The initial problem with a wrong ICMP checksum was caused by
the test code setting a checksum and the HW taking that probably as
the start value and ending up with 0xffff. With a checksum field of 0
set by the test code the HW creates the proper checksum.
Useful for boards without a PHY interface, where that has to be

The default values are those set in mpconfigboard.h.
UART 0 is attached to the Debug USB port. The settings are
115200 Baud, 8N1.
For MIMXRT1010_EVK this is identical to UART1. For the other boards,
this is an additional UART.
The pico-sdk 1.3.0 update in 97a7cc243b
introduced a change that broke RP2 Bluetooth UART, and possibly UART in
general, which stops working right after UART is initialized. The commit
raspberrypi/pico-sdk@2622e9b enables the UART receive timeout (RTIM) IRQ,
which is asserted when the receive FIFO is not empty, and no more
characters are received for a period of time.
This commit makes sure the RTIM IRQ is handled and cleared in
uart_service_interrupt.
The current ST HAL does not support reading the extended CSD so cannot
correctly detect the capacity of high-capacity cards. As a workaround, the
capacity can be forced via the MICROPY_HW_MMCARD_LOG_BLOCK_NBR config
option.

For the coverage build this reduces the binary size to about 1/4 of its
size, and seems to help gcov/lcov coverage analysis so that it doesn't miss
lines.

This adds PL011 UART support which is more plentiful.
It also:
* Fixes PI4 build by including .dtb files on the SD card.
* Enables the activity LED as the status LED on PI4 and CM4 I/O.
* Adds that LED as board.LED.

All 3 micros we care about (S2, S3, C3) state in the documentation
that DMA channel can be specified as SPI_DMA_CH_AUTO.
Specifying a specific DMA channel explicitly doesn't _ever_ work on
ESP32-S3, so no SPI bus could be used.
Testing performed: On the ESP32-S3-DevKitC, used neopixel_spi to
turn the onboard neopixel red, green, and blue
The methods duty_u16() and duty_ns() are implemented to match the existing
docs. The duty will remain the same when the frequency is changed.
Standard ESP32 as well as S2, S3 and C3 are supported.
Thanks to @kdschlosser for the fix for rounding in resolution calculation.
Documentation is updated and examples expanded for esp32, including the
quickref and tutorial. Additional notes are added to the machine.PWM docs
regarding limitations of hardware PWM.
Instead of board pins, so that pins which have only the CPU specified in
pins.csv can still be used with mp_hal_pin_config_alt_static().

A board can now define the following linker symbols to configure its flash
storage layout:

This reduces code size and code duplication, and fixes `pyb.usb_mode()` so
that it now returns the correct string when in multi-VCP mode (before, it
would return None when in one of these modes).

Frequency range 15Hz/18Hz to > 1 MHz, with decreasing resolution of the
duty cycle. The basic API is supported as documentated, except that
keyword parameters are accepted for both the instatiaton and the
PWM.init() call.
Extensions: support PWM for channel pairs. Channel pairs are declared by
supplying 2-element tuples for the pins. The two channels of a pair must
be the A/B channel of a FLEXPWM module. These form than a complementary
pair.
Additional supported keyword arguments:
- center=value Defines the center position of a pulse within the pulse
cycle. The align keyword is actually shortcut for center.
- sync=True|False: If set to True, the channels will be synchronized to a
submodule 0 channel, which has already to be enabled.
- align=PWM.MIDDLE | PMW.BEGIN | PWM.END. It defines, whether synchronized
channels are Center-Aligned or Edge-aligned. The channels must be either
complementary a channel pair or a group of synchronized channels. It may
as well be applied to a single channel, but withiout any benefit.
- invert= 0..3. Controls ouput inversion of the pins. Bit 0 controls the
first pin, bit 1 the second.
- deadtime=time_ns time of complementary channels for delaying the rising
slope.
- xor=0|1|2 xor causes the output of channel A and B to be xored. If
applied to a X channel, it shows the value oif A ^ B. If applied to an A
or B channel, both channel show the xored signal for xor=1. For xor=2,
the xored signal is split between channels A and B. See also the
Reference Manual, chapter about double pulses. The behavior of xor=2 can
also be achieved using the center method for locating a pulse within a
clock period.
The output is enabled for board pins only.
CPU pins may still be used for FLEXPWM, e.g. as sync source, but the signal
will not be routed to the output. That applies only to FLEXPWM pins. The
use of QTMR pins which are not board pins will be rejected.
As part of this commit, the _WFE() statement is removed from
ticks_delay_us64() to prevent PWM glitching during calls to sleep().
This targets the 64-bit CPU Raspberry Pis. The BCM2711 on the Pi 4
and the BCM2837 on the Pi 3 and Zero 2W. There are 64-bit fixes
outside of the ports directory for it.
There are a couple other cleanups that were incidental:
* Use const mcu_pin_obj_t instead of omitting the const. The structs
themselves are const because they are in ROM.
* Use PTR <-> OBJ conversions in more places. They were found when
mp_obj_t was set to an integer type rather than pointer.
* Optimize submodule checkout because the Pi submodules are heavy
and unnecessary for the vast majority of builds.

This is to make the builds for all nucleo/discovery boards uniform, so they
can be treated the same by the auto build scripts.
The CI script is updated to explicitly enable mboot and packing, to test
these features.

This prevents SPI4/5 from being used if SDIO and CYW43 are enabled, because
the DMA for the SDIO is used on an IRQ and must be exclusivly available for
use by the SDIO peripheral.

Because DMA2 may be in use by other peripherals, eg SPI1.
On PYBD-SF6 it's possible to trigger a bug in the existing code by turning
on WLAN and connecting to an AP, pinging the IP address from a PC and
running the following code on the PYBD:

This will eventually fail with `OSError: [Errno 110] ETIMEDOUT` because
DMA2 was turned off by the CYW43 driver during the SPI1 transfer.
This commit fixes the bug by removing the code that explicitly disables
DMA2. Instead DMA2 will be automatically disabled after an inactivity
timeout, see commit a96afae90f

Quail (https://www.mikroe.com/quail, PID: MIKROE-1793) is based on an
STM32F427VI CPU, featuring 2048 kB of Flash memory and 192 kB of RAM. An
on-board Cypress S25FL164K adds 8 MB of SPI Flash.
Quail has 4 mikroBUS(TM) sockets for Mikroe click(TM) board connectivity,
along with 24 screw terminals for connecting additional electronics and two
USB ports (one for programming, the other for external mass storage).
4 UARTs, 2 SPIs and 1 I2C bus are available for communication.

Was incorrectly added as 7MB for an 8MB SPI flash, but this board has a
16MB chip, not 8MB, so it should be 15MB leaving 1MB for MicroPython.

The rp2.StateMachine.exec errors when supplying a sideset action. This
commit passes the sideset_opt from the StateMachine though to the parser.
It also adds some value validation to the sideset operator.
Additionally, the "word" method is added to the exec to allow any other
unsupported opcodes.

Don't force the 'HAL' string to be part of the platform string because
it doesn't have a sensible meaning for all possible platforms, and
swap it with the PLATFORM_ARCH string so the strings which most platforms
have come first.
Although the pyboard has only 4 LEDs, there are some boards that (may) have
more. This commit adds 2 more LEDs to the led.c file that if defined in
the board-specific config file will be compiled in.
- Add board.md files for MIMXRT1060_EVK and MIMXRT1064_EVK warning about
their experimental state.
- Add separate deploy_teensy.md and deploy_mimxrt.md files.
The ARCH MIX board exposes the Ethernet Pins at it's connectors. Therefore
the software is configured for using a LAN8720 PHY device. Breakout boards
with the LAN8720 are easily available.
This commit adds I2S protocol support for the rp2 port:
- I2S API is consistent with STM32 and ESP32 ports
- I2S configurations supported:
- master transmit and master receive
- 16-bit and 32-bit sample sizes
- mono and stereo formats
- sampling frequency
- 3 modes of operation:
- blocking
- non-blocking with callback
- uasyncio
- internal ring buffer size can be tuned
- DMA IRQs are managed on an I2S object basis, allowing other
RP2 entities to use DMA IRQs when I2S is not being used
- MicroPython documentation
- tested on Raspberry Pi Pico development board
- build metric changes for this commit: text(+4552), data(0), bss(+8)

With the Kaluga devkit, the camera interferes with the JTAG function.
However, having DEBUG turned on e.g., to get extended debug information
on the UART debug connection remains useful.
Now, by arranging to add to CFLAGS += -DDEBUG -DENABLE_JTAG=0, this
configuration is easy to achieve.
It's intended that the actual timeout always be at least the requested
timeout. However, due to multiplying by the wrong factor to get from
seconds to cycles, a timeout request of e.g., 8.1s (which is less than
8.192s) would give an actual timeout of 8, not 16 as it should.
Now that there are feature levels, and that this port uses
MICROPY_CONFIG_ROM_LEVEL_MINIMUM, it's easy to see what optional features
can be disabled. And this commit disables them.

Word-size specific configuration is now done automatically, so it no longer
requires this to match the ARM configuration.
Also it's less common to have 32-bit compilation support installed, so this
will make it work "out of the box" for more people.

By having a pair of buffers, the capture hardware can fill one buffer while
Python code (including displayio, etc) operates on the other buffer. This
increases the responsiveness of camera-using code.
On the Kaluga it makes the following improvements:
* 320x240 viewfinder at 30fps instead of 15fps using directio
* 240x240 animated gif capture at 10fps instead of 7.5fps
As discussed at length on Discord, the "usual end user" code will look like
this:

However, rather than presenting a context manager, the core code consists of
three new functions to start & stop continuous capture, and to get the next
frame. The reason is twofold. First, it's simply easier to implement the
context manager object in pure Python. Second, for more advanced usage, the
context manager may be too limiting, and it's easier to iterate on the right
design in Python code. In particular, I noticed that adapting the
JPEG-capturing programs to use continuous capture mode needed a change in
program structure.
The camera app was structured as

if shutter button was just pressed:
capture a jpeg frame
else:
update the viewfinder
```
However, "capture a jpeg frame" needs to (A) switch the camera settings and (B)
capture into a different, larger buffer then (C) return to the earlier
settings. This can't be done during continuous capture mode. So just
restructuring it as follows isn't going to work:

with camera.continuous_capture(buffer1, buffer2) as capture:
for frame in capture:
if shutter button was just pressed:
capture a jpeg frame, without disturbing continuous capture mode
else:
update the viewfinder
```
The continuous mode is only implemented in the espressif port; others
will throw an exception if the associated methods are invoked. It's not
impossible to implement there, just not a priority, since these micros don't
have enough RAM for two framebuffer copies at any resonable sizes.
The capture code, including single-shot capture, now take mp_obj_t in the
common-hal layer, instead of a buffer & length. This was done for the
continuous capture mode because it has to identify & return to the user the
proper Python object representing the original buffer. In the Espressif port,
it was convenient to implement single capture in terms of a multi-capture,
which is why I changed the singleshot routine's signature too.
