ae8d867586 py: Add iter_buf to getiter type method.
Allows to iterate over the following without allocating on the heap:
- tuple
- list
- string, bytes
- bytearray, array
- dict (not dict.keys, dict.values, dict.items)
- set, frozenset

Allows to call the following without heap memory:
- all, any, min, max, sum

TODO: still need to allocate stack memory in bytecode for iter_buf.

e97df97600 py: Shrink mp_arg_t struct by using reduced-size integer members.
qstrs ids are restricted to fit within 2 bytes already (eg in persistent
bytecode) so it's safe to use a uint16_t to store them in mp_arg_t.  And
the flags member only needs a maximum of 2 bytes so can also use uint16_t.

Savings in code size can be significant when many mp_arg_t structs are
used for argument parsing.  Eg, this patch reduces stmhal by 480 bytes.

8c50f93a41 py/runtime.h: Define mp_check_self(pred) helper macro.
Indended to replace raw asserts in bunch of files. Expands to empty
if MICROPY_BUILTIN_METHOD_CHECK_SELF_ARG is defined, otehrwise by
default still to assert, though a particular port may define it to
something else.

9e1b61dedd py/runtime: Factor out exception raising helpers.
Introduce mp_raise_msg(), mp_raise_ValueError(), mp_raise_TypeError()
instead of previous pattern nlr_raise(mp_obj_new_exception_msg(...)).
Save few bytes on each call, which are many.

999cedb90f py: Wrap all obj-ptr conversions in MP_OBJ_TO_PTR/MP_OBJ_FROM_PTR.
This allows the mp_obj_t type to be configured to something other than a
pointer-sized primitive type.

This patch also includes additional changes to allow the code to compile
when sizeof(mp_uint_t) != sizeof(void*), such as using size_t instead of
mp_uint_t, and various casts.

59fba2d6ea py: Remove mp_load_const_bytes and instead load precreated bytes object.
Previous to this patch each time a bytes object was referenced a new
instance (with the same data) was created.  With this patch a single
bytes object is created in the compiler and is loaded directly at execute
time as a true constant (similar to loading bignum and float objects).
This saves on allocating RAM and means that bytes objects can now be
used when the memory manager is locked (eg in interrupts).

The MP_BC_LOAD_CONST_BYTES bytecode was removed as part of this.

Generated bytecode is slightly larger due to storing a pointer to the
bytes object instead of the qstr identifier.

Code size is reduced by about 60 bytes on Thumb2 architectures.

7f9d1d6ab9 py: Overhaul and simplify printf/pfenv mechanism.
Previous to this patch the printing mechanism was a bit of a tangled
mess.  This patch attempts to consolidate printing into one interface.

All (non-debug) printing now uses the mp_print* family of functions,
mainly mp_printf.  All these functions take an mp_print_t structure as
their first argument, and this structure defines the printing backend
through the "print_strn" function of said structure.

Printing from the uPy core can reach the platform-defined print code via
two paths: either through mp_sys_stdout_obj (defined pert port) in
conjunction with mp_stream_write; or through the mp_plat_print structure
which uses the MP_PLAT_PRINT_STRN macro to define how string are printed
on the platform.  The former is only used when MICROPY_PY_IO is defined.

With this new scheme printing is generally more efficient (less layers
to go through, less arguments to pass), and, given an mp_print_t*
structure, one can call mp_print_str for efficiency instead of
mp_printf("%s", ...).  Code size is also reduced by around 200 bytes on
Thumb2 archs.

7f1c98177b vm: Support strict stackless mode, with proper exception reporting.
I.e. in this mode, C stack will never be used to call a Python function,
but if there's no free heap for a call, it will be reported as
RuntimeError (as expected), not MemoryError.

55b74d1ff5 py: Combine duplicated code that converts members from a lookup.
Despite initial guess, this code factoring does not hamper performance.
In fact it seems to improve speed by a little: running pystone(1.2) on
pyboard (which gives a very stable result) this patch takes pystones
from 1729.51 up to 1742.16.  Also, pystones on x64 increase by around
the same proportion (but it's much noisier).

Taking a look at the generated machine code, stack usage with this patch
is unchanged, and call is tail-optimised with all arguments in
registers.  Code size decreases by about 50 bytes on Thumb2 archs.

e1e359ff59 py: Put mp_sys_path, mp_sys_argv and gc_collected in mp_state_ctx_t.
Without mp_sys_path and mp_sys_argv in the root pointer section of the
state, their memory was being incorrectly collected by GC.

a5efcd4745 py: Specify unary/binary op name in TypeError error message.
Eg, "() + 1" now tells you that __add__ is not supported for tuple and
int types (before it just said the generic "binary operator").  We reuse
the table of names for slot lookup because it would be a waste of code
space to store the pretty name for each operator.

124df6f8d0 py: Add mp_pending_exception global variable, for VM soft interrupt.
This allows to implement KeyboardInterrupt on unix, and a much safer
ctrl-C in stmhal port.  First ctrl-C is a soft one, with hope that VM
will notice it; second ctrl-C is a hard one that kills anything (for
both unix and stmhal).

One needs to check for a pending exception in the VM only for jump
opcodes.  Others can't produce an infinite loop (infinite recursion is
caught by stack check).

3c658a4e75 py: Fix bug where GC collected native/viper/asm function data.
Because (for Thumb) a function pointer has the LSB set, pointers to
dynamic functions in RAM (eg native, viper or asm functions) were not
being traced by the GC.  This patch is a comprehensive fix for this.

Addresses issue #820.

7e4a2b0edc py: Add generic mp_not_implemented() func to use instead of assert().

97f9a2813e py: Add support for __debug__ constant.
__debug__ now resolves to True or False.  Its value needs to be set by

491cbd6a7c py: Add keyword arg support to enumerate constructor.
Need to have a policy as to how far we go adding keyword support to
built ins.  It's nice to have, and gets better CPython compatibility,
but hurts the micro nature of uPy.

Addresses issue #577.

04b9147e15 Add license header to (almost) all files.
Blanket wide to all .c and .h files.  Some files originating from ST are
difficult to deal with (license wise) so it was left out of those.

Also merged modpyb.h, modos.h, modstm.h and modtime.h in stmhal/.

a3f94e0030 py: Add arg checking helper functions.
These are to assist in writing native C functions that take positional
and keyword arguments.  mp_arg_check_num is for just checking the
number of arguments is correct.  mp_arg_parse_all is for parsing
positional and keyword arguments with default values.

df8127a17e py: Remove unique_codes from emitglue.c. Replace with pointers.
Attempt to address issue #386.  unique_code_id's have been removed and
replaced with a pointer to the "raw code" information.  This pointer is
stored in the actual byte code (aligned, so the GC can trace it), so
that raw code (ie byte code, native code and inline assembler) is kept
only for as long as it is needed.  In memory it's now like a tree: the
outer module's byte code points directly to its children's raw code.  So
when the outer code gets freed, if there are no remaining functions that
need the raw code, then the children's code gets freed as well.

This is pretty much like CPython does it, except that CPython stores
indexes in the byte code rather than machine pointers.  These indices
index the per-function constant table in order to find the relevant
code.

36dd19ae27 py: Revert mp_load_attr() to its previous state (not supporting default val).
Based on the discussion in #433. mp_load_attr() is critical-path function,
so any extra check will slowdown any script. As supporting default val
required only for getattr() builtin, move correspending implementation
there (still as a separate function due to concerns of maintainability
of such almost-duplicated code instances).

7efc5b3f34 py: Make globals and locals proper dictionary objects.
Finishes addressing issue #424.

In the end this was a very neat refactor that now makes things a lot
more consistent across the py code base.  It allowed some
simplifications in certain places, now that everything is a dict object.

Also converted builtins tables to dictionaries.  This will be useful
when we need to turn builtins into a proper module.

e44d26ae0c py: Implement __getattr__.
It's not completely satisfactory, because a failed call to __getattr__
should not raise an exception.

__setattr__ could be implemented, but it would slow down all stores to a
user created object.  Need to implement some caching system.

Pretty much everyone needs to include map.h, since it's such an integral
part of the Micro Python object implementation.  Thus, the definitions
are now in obj.h instead.  map.h is removed.

d1e443d0bc py: Free unique_code slot for outer module.
Partly (very partly!) addresses issue #386.  Most importantly, at the
REPL command line, each invocation does not now lead to increased memory
usage (unless you define a function/lambda).

f909034400 py: Implement support for "except Exception as var" clause.
For this, needed to implement DELETE_NAME bytecode (because var bound
in except clause is automatically deleted at its end).

51dabac096 Add pin mapping code.
This commit also introduces board directories and moves board
specific config into the appropriate board directory.

boards/stm32f4xx-af.csv was extracted from the STM32F4xx datasheet
and hand-tweaked.

make-pins.py takes boards/stm32f4xx-af.csv, boards/stm32f4xx-prefix.c,
and boards/BOARD-NAME/pins.csv as input and generates the file
build/pins_BOARD_NAME.c

The generated pin file for PYBOARD4 looks like this:

The generated pins file includes all of the supported alternate
functions, and includes upsupported alternate functions as comments.

See the commnet block at the top of stm/pin_map.c for details on
how to use the pin mapper.

I also went ahead and modified stm/gpio.c to use the pin mapper.

c5966128c7 Implement proper exception type hierarchy.
Each built-in exception is now a type, with base type BaseException.
C exceptions are created by passing a pointer to the exception type to
make an instance of.  When raising an exception from the VM, an
instance is created automatically if an exception type is raised (as
opposed to an exception instance).

Exception matching (RT_BINARY_OP_EXCEPTION_MATCH) is now proper.

Handling of parse error changed to match new exceptions.

mp_const_type renamed to mp_type_type for consistency.

e11b17c25f Implement support for sys.path when loading modules.
sys.path is not initialized by rt_init(), that's left for platform-specific
startup code. (For example, bare metal port may have some hardcoded defaults,
and let user change sys.path directly; while port for OS with environment
feature can take path from environment). If it's not explicitly initialized,
modules will be imported only from a current directory.

90750029df Implement default function arguments (for Python functions).
TODO: Decide if we really need separate bytecode for creating functions
with default arguments - we would need same for closures, then there're
keywords arguments too. Having all combinations is a small exponential
explosion, likely we need just 2 cases - simplest (no defaults, no kw),
and full - defaults & kw.

0d028743aa py: Initialise loaded_module map in rt_init.
STM port crashes without this re-init.  There should not be any state in
the core py/ code that relies on pre-initialised data.

20006dbba9 Make VM stack grow upwards, and so no reversed args arrays.
Change state layout in VM so the stack starts at state[0] and grows
upwards.  Locals are at the top end of the state and number downwards.
This cleans up a lot of the interface connecting the VM to C: now all
functions that take an array of Micro Python objects are in order (ie no
longer in reverse).

Also clean up C API with keyword arguments (call_n and call_n_kw
replaced with single call method that takes keyword arguments).  And now
make_new takes keyword arguments.

emitnative.c has not yet been changed to comply with the new order of
stack layout.

eb7bfcb286 Split qstr into pools, and put initial pool in ROM.
Qstr's are now split into a linked-list of qstr pools.  This has 2
benefits: the first pool can be in ROM (huge benefit, since we no longer
use RAM for the core qstrs), and subsequent pools use m_new for the next
pool instead of m_renew (thus avoiding a huge single table for all the
qstrs).

Still would be better to use a hash table, but this scheme takes us part
of the way (eventually convert the pools to hash tables).

Also fixed bug with import.

Also improved the way the module code is referenced (not magic number 1
anymore).

d99b05282d Change object representation from 1 big union to individual structs.
A big change.  Micro Python objects are allocated as individual structs
with the first element being a pointer to the type information (which
is itself an object).  This scheme follows CPython.  Much more flexible,
not necessarily slower, uses same heap memory, and can allocate objects
statically.

Also change name prefix, from py_ to mp_ (mp for Micro Python).
